September Meeting

The next meeting of Brighton Garden Club is Thursday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brighton Community Center, located at 555 Brighton Street.

This month’s featured presentation is about preserving summer memories with pressed flowers, presented by Advanced Master Gardener Judy Cornellier. Judy is a charter member of the Troy Garden Club, longtime member of the Herb Society of America and former chair of the herb garden at Cranbrook Gardens.

June meeting

The next meeting of Brighton Garden Club will be Thursday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brighton Community Center, located at 555 Brighton Street.

We will install our officers for the coming year and have a potluck. If your last name begins with A-L bring a dish to pass. If your last name begins with M-Z bring a table decoration, preferably something grown in your yard.

Annual Plant Sale

Don’t miss the Brighton Garden Club’s annual plant sale on Saturday, May 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Main and Hyne streets in downtown Brighton. Besides healthy perennials for shade and sun, members will be selling handmade mason bee houses, succulents potted in whimsical containers and more. Proceeds from the sale fund the club’s seven community gardens and other philanthropic projects.

Learn about growing and using herbs

Join the members of Brighton Garden Club at our next meeting on Thursday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. Featured speaker Susan Betz’s presentation is titled “Neighborly Natives: Herbs for Pleasure and Purpose.” Betz is a charter member and past president of the Michigan Herb Association. She has been active in the Master Gardener program for over 25 years, and currently works with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and conservation groups to document and preserve native plants and animals in the Hastings Lake Prairie Fen and Oak Savanna located on her property in Jonesville, Michigan.

Summer Update

Thank you for visiting our web site!  We will be busy working in one of our seven community gardens in the summer and invite you to stop by and enjoy them with a friend.  They are:  Post Office garden, Library garden, Millpond Planters, Veteran’s Memorial, Sculpture Park, Brighton Community Center, and Gleaner’s Victory Garden.  Our monthly meetings begin in September.
